Zato is an Association of Indigenous local Tour Operators in Zambia. Formed to address and lobby with the government on challenges faced by Indigenous local Tour Operators and to engage Government on various tourism concerns.
ZATO was formed and registered with the registrar of Companies on 23rd June, 2017 according to Zambia’s companies Act.
To provide leadership in the development and marketing of authentic local tourism experiences through innovative partnerships and help to grow local Indigenous Tourism businesses and make Zambia a preferred tourism destination.
To have a thriving Tourism and National Economy, through networking and sharing authentic educational, memorable, entertaining and enriching tourism experiences.

The purpose of the Zambian Association of Indigenous Tour Operators (ZATO) is to improve the socio-economic situation of the local Indigenous people within the10 provinces of Zambia. ZATO will endeavor to do that through the provision of the following services to Tourism operators, Communities and those looking to start tourism and cultural businesses:
ZATO is determined to encourage innovation in tourism activities and tourism lodging properties by encouraging investment (ownership) among its members and other Zambian Nationals.
The Association aims to position itself as a vehicle to lobby cooperating partners and Government on various issues concerning tourism development in Zambia and also to lobby and promote secure, safe and business friendly working environment for Tourism businesses and their staff.
ZATO is also keen to develop relationships with other Tourism Associations within the country and surrounding regions which have similar values and mandates in the tourism industry.
ZATO will endeavor to work across all sectors of the tourism industry to enable collective support, promotion and marketing of authentic tourism facilities and activities with special focus on Indigenous cultural tourism businesses, development and to share tourism experiences in the country.
ZATO is keen to develop relationships with other Tourism Associations within the country and surrounding regions which have similar values and mandates in the tourism industry.
